Birth Control: Getting Started and Best Practices

How should I store my birth control? What if it was shipped during extreme cold or hot weather, will it still be effective?

Last updated on September 1, 2020

Birth control should be stored in a cool, dry place, between 59-86ºF, and outside the reach of children and pets.

If your shipment was exposed to a temperature outside the above range, it’s not necessarily unusable, since the medication can withstand some exposure outside that range. If you’re concerned, call the manufacturer of the medication you were shipped and they can tell you whether or not your specific medication is still effective after a given exposure. The manufacturer’s phone number will be on your medication’s package, along with the lot number and expiration date (information they’ll need to determine efficacy after an exposure).
