If you’ve been using the NuvaRing or birth control pills for a while now, you might be familiar with the constant reminders, upkeep, and general work that goes into your birth control routine. Well, now there's Annovera—the year long vaginal ring alternative to NuvaRing that requires only one delivery and minimal maintenance.

Here’s why patients are loving Annovera

We broke down how birth control pills and NuvaRing compare to Annovera, and why many women are making the switch to Annovera.

Only one delivery

Each NuvaRing only lasts for one cycle, whereas Annovera lasts for 13 cycles (1 year). Pills require even more upkeep with daily doses and monthly (or quarterly) prescriptions. So, no need to worry about deliveries anymore, you’ll always have your birth control on hand with Annovera.

Softer and more comfortable

Annovera is softer and more pliable than the NuvaRing. This may mean increased comfort and easier insertion for you. And, if you are new to birth control rings, inserting Annovera is as simple as inserting a tampon.

No refrigeration

For those on NuvaRing, you know the hassle of having to refrigerate. Annovera does not require refrigeration and instead comes with a discreet case to store your ring.

No daily or monthly reminders

Just insert the Annovera ring, wear it for 21 days, then remove, clean it and store it for 7 days. During the 7 days it’s removed, you’ll get your period. After the 7 days are up, insert Annovera again for the next 21 days, and continue this process for up to 12 months. Never forget to take a pill again thanks to Annovera’s ease of use.

Low and slow hormone release

On average, Annovera releases 0.15 mg/day of progestin (segesterone acetate) and 0.013 mg/day of estrogen (ethinyl estradiol), which is one of the lowest doses of estrogen on the market and less estrogen than the NuvaRing.
