6 Secrets Of the Female Condom
It’s time for some female condom real talk—we want to give a few *fun* tips and facts you might not know about the FC2 internal condom.
1. You can use it with any lube.
Unlike a regular condom, you don’t have to be as careful about which lube to use. With male condoms, an oil based lube can wear down the latex, rendering it ineffective. With the female condom you can use natural lubricant, water-based lubricant, or oil based lubricant without impacting its effectiveness.
2. The outer ring can be pleasure enhancing.
The female condom features an outer ring to provide extra protection for your external genitals. It can also provide further stimulation by rubbing the outer ring on your clitoris during intercourse. This is great if you have trouble reaching orgasm through intercourse.
3. You can use it on your period!
Do you dislike having sex on your period because of the mess? The female condom can act as a barrier between you and your partner keeping you both as ~mess free~ as possible.
4. Insert it ahead of time, so you’re in control.
The female condom can be inserted up to 8 hours before sex, so you can avoid any awkward conversations or transitions that can happen with a male condom. When the time comes, just guide your partners penis into your vagina. See more tips here for a smooth transition!
5. The female condom works great with any form of hormonal birth control.
If you like to use a backup method or protect yourself from STIs, the female condom is 95% effective against unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV (with “normal use” the efficacy is closer to 79%).
6. It’s one size fits all!
A common complaint (and sometimes excuse) we’ve heard before from male partners is around male condoms not fitting well. The female condom is the same length as the male condom but since it’s wider, it works well for men of all sizes.
Still feeling unsure that the female condom can be fun? Take it from Luz M. Miranda who talked about her experience on our blog, saying: “Overall, I had a great experience and personally prefer the internal condom over the male condom. I found it more reliable and enjoyable because of the lubrication inside and out, the latex-free and irritation-free experience, and the peace of mind of knowing it was designed to fit well.”
