Don’t want to take a pill every day? Consider NuvaRing—a flexible vaginal ring that contains a combination of progestin and estrogen hormones that prevent pregnancy and regulate your cycle. You only need to insert the ring (like a tampon) once every three weeks, eliminating the need for that daily “birth control” alarm. Inside the vagina, NuvaRing continuously releases pregnancy-preventing hormones. At the end of the three weeks, you remove the ring for a week, then simply insert a new ring. If used correctly, it’s just as effective as the pill. Like combination pills, the NuvaRing poses risks to those who smoke and are over 35, or have a history of blood clots or breast cancer.
